So what was the real issue for why lighthouse never got approved and this did? Seems to me the islanders could have stayed in Nassau of lighthouse were approved.for an outsider it doesn't makesense that this gets approval and the otherproposal for lighthouse never got any traction.

The Lighthouse project as beautiful as it was.. was a small city. It had plans for a structure that would have been the tallest structure on the whole Island, it had plans for housing, a baseball park, L.I.'s first 5 star hotel... it was epic & ultimately TOO big.. you have to remember that L.I. is suburbia... no one wanted to have structures built that brought the city closer. Mix that in with politics on both sides, Charles Wang's inability to work with the powers that be & the Islanders' being an after thought from being a doormat for over 2 decades, it was a total recipe for disaster.

Thanks for the explanation... wish Wang had scaled it down and had the right lobbyists working the politicians...

I'm still not sure how Pickett could not get a new building with the team coming off a dynasty? As far as I know, he was not looking for a mini city.

Is the Isles affiliation with the Sound Tigers ironclad? Any reason why they can't affiliate with another AHL team that would move to Nassau?

If they're really a successful team than he could sell them and buy another AHL franchise for the Coliseum. Adding another AHL franchise to the Northeast would be viable, especially since LOng Island does not have easy access to AHL Hockey.

Another idea would be to have Sound Tigers, Whale and Even Albany play games here since LI has a fan base for the parent franchise of these teams.

Some of our local colleges and even high schools have good hockey programs so I could see an opportunity to host tournaments.

Dee let's be frank...Kate Murray totally screwed Islanders fans and Charles Wang. Yet she stands their with her smug smile taking credit ... for what? Oh yea her town rezoned the property. The Sound Tigers aren't coming,,,do we really need another arena football team, when it already failed...pro lacrosse...come on. Kate Murray stuck it to Charles...pure and simple.

Just getting back to some hockey talk, any word on the new captain being named or is that going to be during training camp....I know JT should be a shoe in but I will go way out there and say Matt Martin would be a good choice too. He has a strong voice with the boys I'm sure and they would have to respect him like us fans....not saying I'd rather him over JT, he really is the captain anyway IMO....but I really do like Martin and what he brings to the team........let the critics speak...lol but hey its at least hockey talk....

Kate Murray is in Dolan's pocket..... Thats all you need to know......... Wang was aware of it and thats why The Isles moved to Brooklyn, it is also why the County chose Ratner's group....

Basically Chuckie D screwed himself..... He wanted to keep MSG (and MSG controlled Radio City Music Hall) as the pre eminent venue for Sports, Music, and entertainment, but instead wound up with Barclay's in Brooklyn and a mini-Barclays in Nassau.

add to that a meager 10 year Lease for MSG on top of Penn Station after a Billion dollar renovation...... its easy to see why Chuckie D is so unhappy.... Dolan thought he was sitting pretty...... Ratner and Yormark along with Wang, The Nets and Islanders, are going to make Chuckie D very sad that he got involved with Kate..... They overplayed their hand

The Chuckie D backed Newsday, News 12, and his bought and paid for politicos tried to keep his Rivals down, Instead he's hurt his own brand

Lets talk Hockey...
Listening to sirius xm yesterday on the powerplay show they mentioned that the Isles where not going to make the play-offs being in the tough division with the rangers and devils. As a matter a fact they had the devils making the play-offs and they isles miss it. Give me your take on it.. do we need really better goal tending ? yes I think we do but give our players a chance. according to them loosing Streit is our downfall for a puck moving D-man on the powerplay.
